Frequently Asked Questions
How does Internal Family Systems differ from traditional therapy?
A lot of traditional therapy has a power dynamic where the therapist knows best and is very directive. You see this with therapists giving homework that clients don’t want to do, telling them what they should be doing, and other forms of directive exercising.
This can be off-putting for some and I think it contributes to the fear a lot of people have of therapy. IFS takes the idea that we all have the answers, we just need help accessing it. There is no diagnosing or labeling from the therapist, every symptom can be traced back to a part of you and not your whole being.
This less pathological view really helps clients feel safe to explore the different parts of them. Once clients can access their parts safely in therapy and consistently outside of therapy they can transition into living the peaceful life they wanted.
Do you accept insurance?
Currently we are only private pay. The benefits of this include not having a limited amount of sessions that insurance companies require, as well as increased confidentiality due to less communication with insurance companies. We can provide documentation if need be for out of network requirements.
What’s your fee?
My current fee is $250 per 50 minute session. We also offer longer intensive sessions for IFS therapy and IFIO couples therapy that start at $385. Please inquire about these during the consultation call as the rates vary based on weekday and weekend appointments, virtual/in person and your specific needs.
What should I expect for my first session?
You will be sent paperwork ahead of time for your first session. It is normally helpful to have filled this out ahead of your first session to save time. Once you arrive you will check in on the kiosk and if you have any questions the front desk assistant can help you. We will go over any questions you have on the paperwork first and then start the session.
What if I don’t live in Orlando?
We offer telehealth sessions for any resident in Florida. Unfortunately my licensure requirements does not allow therapy outside of Florida.
What experience do you have?
I have a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, so I use this to understand things through a systemic view internally and externally. I am Level 2 Trained in Internal Family Systems and trained in Intimacy From The Inside Out. I am also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida.
